The current situation in Iraq in the aftermath of the invasion by British and U.S. forces made many analysts pay closer attention to the problems facing the Russian forces in Chechnya. Rather than engaging the convoluted and politically controversial arguments regarding how comparable the two situations are, we must be clear on what is actually going on.
