(NECN) Oxana Shevel joined Jim Braude on Broadside to discuss the rapidly escalating crisis involving the Ukraine, Russia and United States. She has family in Kiev and has been monitoring the events nervously.
Braude asked Shevel why the people of the United States should care what Russia does in the Ukraine.
"Russia's clearly violating international law, global international law principal of sovereignty, and even its own obligations that it took upon itself as one of the guarantors of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity," said Shevel.
Shevel went on to say Ukrainian people are hoping international response will prevent Russia from doing more than it has already done.
Vladimir Putin's decision to invade the Ukraine just days after the Sochi Winter Olympics suggest that he is totally out of touch with reality.
You can't exclude that fact that Putin is living in a "parallel world," said Shevel.
Braude and Shevel went on to discuss what possibilities the United States may have in affecting Putin's behavior.
