(WNYC Radio) The FBI and DHS released a Joint Analysis Report yesterday highlighting the ways in which the Russian civilian and military intelligence services acted to influence the American election – malicious cyber activity that the U.S. government is officially referring to as GRIZZLY STEPPE.
The release of the report coincided with the Obama administration's first direct action against Russia, which arguably the largest response to a state-sponsored cyberattack so far. The administration has ejected 35 Russian intelligence operatives from the U.S., and imposed sanctions on two of Russia's leading intelligence services. In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry released the following statement:
"The outgoing US administration has not given up on its hope of dealing one last blow to relations with Russia, which it has already destroyed."
